HBO unveils 2020 docs line-up

HBO has revealed its documentary line-up for the first half of this year, with programmes including Atlanta Child Murders (working title) and McMillion$.

Atlanta Child Murders re-examines the missing and murdered children of Atlanta in the late 1970s and early 80s in collaboration with Show of Force, Roc Nation and Get Lifted Film Co.

The case was recently brought back to public attention by the Atlanta Monster podcast hosted by Payne Lindsey and Netflix series Mindhunter.

McMillion$, meanwhile, tells the true story of how US$24m was stolen via the McDonald’s Monopoly promotion in the 1990s, the mystery mastermind behind the scam and the intrepid FBI agents on his trail.

It is directed by James Lee Hernandez and Brian Lazarte, with Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg exec producing alongside Stephen Levinson and Archie Gips.

Other titles in the line-up are Ali & Cavett: The Tale of the Tapes, which looks at boxing legend Muhammad Ali by chronicling his life and career through the lens of his relationship with television talkshow host Dick Cavett; We Are the Dream: The Kids of the Oakland MLK Oratorical Fest; and season three of Axios.

After Truth: Disinformation & the Cost of Fake News; Kill Chain: The Cyber War on America’s Elections; The Art of Political Murder; Natalie Wood: What Remains Behind; Transhood; Welcome to Chechnya; and Bully. Coward. Victim: The Story of Roy Cohn will also air on HBO in the first half of 2020.
