HBO unearths more Righteous Gemstones

HBO has renewed televangelist comedy The Righteous Gemstones for a second season.

The Righteous Gemstones follows a successful televangelist family

Created and written by comedian Danny McBride, who also stars, the show tells the story of a famous televangelist family who have made a nice living off their ministry.

The series also stars John Goodman, Edi Patterson and Adam Devine as members of the Gemstones family.

It premiered last month and became HBO’s most-watched debut in more than three years.

McBride plays Jesse Gemstone, who is trying to follow in his father’s religious footsteps but his past sins keep catching up with him and threaten the family’s ministry.

McBride directed all nine episodes of the first season and executive produced alongside Jody Hill and David Gordon Green for Rough House Pictures. Other executive producers include John Carcieri, Jeff Fradley and Brandon James.

The Righteous Gemstones is produced by David Brightbill and coproduced by Justin Bourret and Melissa DeMino.
