HBO to drop Ballers after S5

Dwayne Johnson stars in and exec produces HBO’s Ballers

US premium cablenet HBO has cancelled comedy series Ballers after its fifth season.

Star and executive producer Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson made the announcement on Instagram.

“Cheers to our final season of HBO’s Ballers,” he wrote. “My heart is full of gratitude to all of you for rockin’ with us every season. I love you, I thank you and enjoy our final season of Ballers.”

The show is produced by US prodcos Closest to the Hole Productions, Leverage Entertainment and 7 Bucks Entertainment.

It stars Johnson as a former American football superstar as he gets his life on track in retirement while mentoring other players through the daily grind of the business.

The fifth season finds Johnson’s character getting comfortable in retirement when an enticing offer comes along for him to become a team owner.

Along with Johnson, the show’s executive producers include Dany Garcia, Peter Berg, Rob Weiss, Denis Biggs, Karyn McCarthy and Julian Farino.
