HBO, Sky prep Rolling Stone doc

HBO in the US and Sky Arts in the UK are set to air a six-part documentary about American magazine Rolling Stone from UK independent producer Nevision and filmmaker Alex Gibney.

Rolling Stone: Stories From The Edge (6×42’) will be distributed globally by Kew Media Group, a partner of Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions shingle.

Gibney and Blair Foster will direct and executive produce the series with Wenner Media’s Jann Wenner, co-founder and publisher of Rolling Stone, and Nevision’s James Cabourne. Jigsaw’s Richard Perello and Stacey Offman will co-executive produce the documentary.

Rolling Stone: Stories From The Edge will show the emergence of the magazine, the ground-breaking work of its writers and its impact on society. The documentary will chronicle some of the great journalistic stories, storytellers and music makers featured over the years.

The big-budget series is currently in production and the show is set to air on HBO in early November and on Sky Arts on November 10, to mark the publication’s 50th anniversary. Kew will launch it internationally at Mipcom in October.
