HBO set to tell more Big Little Lies

Big Little Lies is based on the novel by Liane Moriarty

US premium cablenet HBO has confirmed its order for a second season of hit series Big Little Lies, starring Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon.

The duo will also exec produce the seven-part second run, which had been rumoured to have received the go-ahead earlier this year.

The series is produced by Pacific Standard and Blossom Films, with HBO Enterprises and Warner Bros TV Distribution selling globally.

The dark comedy-drama is based on the eponymous novel by Liane Moriarty and follows three women living seemingly perfect lives as they become embroiled in a series of crimes.

David Kelley (Ally McBeal) will again write with Transparent’s Andrea Arnold directing. Jean-Marc Vallee, who helmed the first season, is attached to exec produce.

The show was a break-out hit for HBO earlier this year, picking up eight Emmys including Outstanding Limited Series. With a second season now ordered, the Producers Guild of America has reclassified the show as a drama series rather than a limited series for its forthcoming PGA Awards, according to Deadline.
