HBO Max, Globo, ZDF link for youth drama

Theodosia will be filmed in France and Belgium

WarnerMedia-owned streamer HBO Max, Brazilian broadcaster Globo and German pubcaster ZDF have jointly commissioned a youth-skewing historical drama series.

French kids’ producer Cottonwood Media and ZDF’s commercial arm ZDF Enterprises are working on Theodosia (26×30’), which is based on the books by Robin L LaFevers.

Set in 1906, the live-action series focuses on a young girl who is fascinated by Egyptology and has hidden powers that allow her to see ancient curses.

Filming is scheduled to commence April 2021 in France and Belgium. The show will be directed by Matthias Hoene.

Exec produced by Joe Williams and Leila Smith, the series is produced by Cottonwood Media’s David Michel, Cécile Lauritano and Zoé Carrera Allaix.

French distributor Federation Kids & Family, which already distributes much of Cottonwood Media’s content, and ZDFE will handle worldwide sales.

The order marks Globo’s first live-action international kids’ copro. Globo kids’ channels Gloob and Gloobinho are also involved in the production.
