HBO Max brings back Adventure Time

Adventure Time has won a number of entertainment awards

HBO Max has ordered four Adventure Time specials, reviving the hit show just over a year after its series finale aired on Cartoon Network.

The Adventure Time: Distant Lands specials will premiere exclusively on HBO Max, with the first two set to debut on the forthcoming streamer in 2020.

They will continue the stories from the series, which ran for 10 seasons on Cartoon Network between 2010 and 2018.

The show follows the unlikely heroes and best buds Finn the human and Jake the dog, who traverse the mystical Land of Ooo and encounter its colourful inhabitants.

Produced by Cartoon Network Studios, the specials are titled BMO, Obsidian, Wizard City and Together Again.

“The enchanted world of Adventure Time has mesmerised viewers and critics alike as Finn and Jake right wrongs and battle evil,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content and HBO Max.

“Adventure Time was a groundbreaking series and a creative playground for so many talented creative artists,” added Rob Sorcher, chief content officer at Cartoon Network Studios.

“Producing Adventure Time: Distant Lands for HBO Max will allow our studio to explore this beloved world in an all-new format.”

Created by Pendleton Ward and executive produced by Adam Muto, the series won numerous entertainment awards and cultivated a generation of talent who have helmed others shows, such as Steven Universe, Over the Garden Wall and Clarence.

HBO Max is WarnerMedia’s direct-to-consumer offering that will debut in spring 2020.
