HBO Max acquires David Makes Man

David Makes Man debuted on OWN last year

WarnerMedia’s recently launched streaming service HBO Max has acquired the rights to drama series David Makes Man.

The show is produced by Page Fright, Outlier Society Productions and Harpo Films in association with Warner Horizon Scripted Television for cablenet OWN in the US.

It centres on a 14-year-old prodigy in South Florida who is haunted by the death of his closest friend and relied upon by his hardworking mother to find a way out of poverty.

The series is inspired by events from the life of screenwriter and playwright Tarell Alvin McCraney, who writes and exec produces the show. Dee Harris-Lawrence is showrunner, while Mike Kelley, Melissa Loy, Michael B Jordan and Oprah Winfrey also exec produce.

David Makes Man premiered on OWN last year and has been renewed for a second season. The first season will launch on HBO Max on July 16.
