HBO Europe makes Oblivious move

HBO Europe drama Wasteland

HBO Europe has ordered another local drama, this time a six-part spy show set in Czechoslovakia during the late 1980s.

Oblivious is to be directed by Ivan Zacharias, who previously worked on fellow HBO Europe show Wasteland, and has been written by Ondrej Gabriel.

The show adds to HBO Europe’s growing roster of originals, with forthcoming dramas including Blinded by the Lights from Poland, Hackerville from Romania and Germany, and Success from Croatia.

The latter was HBO Europe’s first show to be commissioned from the Adriatic region and was created and written by Marjan Alčevski, with Oscar-winning filmmaker Danis Tanović (No Man’s Land) also attached. The show was the winner of HBO Europe’s Adria First Draft competition, which aimed to find new writing talent from the region.

On Friday, HBO Nordic greenlit Beforeigners (6×45′), its first Norwegian original. The show was created by Anne Bjørnstad and Eilif Skodvin’s, the screenwriting duo behind Netflix original Lilyhammer.
