Bad Banks (6×52’) is coproduced by Germany’s Letterbox Filmproduktion and Luxembourg’s Iris Production, along with pubcasters ZDF in Germany and Arte France. HBO Europe has picked up the show for all territories in Central Europe and Scandinavia.

Elsewhere in Europe, Channel 4 has acquired the series for its Walter Presents service in the UK while it has also gone to RTÉ in Ireland, Sundance TV Iberia for Spain and Portugal and RTP in Portugal.

Further afield, SBS in Australia and Rialto in New Zealand have also acquired the show. France’s Federation Entertainment is the global distributor.

The series was written by Oliver Kienle (Stronger Than Blood) and directed by Christian Schwochow (Paula).

The production also received support from Film Fund Luxembourg, Germany’s HessenFilm & Medien and the German Motion Picture Fund.

The first two episodes of Bad Banks will receive a world premiere on Wednesday at Berlinale as part of the festival’s official selection.
