HBO Europe grows The Pack

Wataha (The Pack) is set in the Bieszczady Mountains

HBO Europe has greenlit a third season of its Polish original drama Wataha (The Pack).

Production on the six-part season will begin in February 2019 on location in the Bieszczady Mountains, with additional filming in Warsaw.

The series follows a border guard unit based in the remote mountains on Poland’s border with Ukraine.

“As previous seasons of Wataha and our most recent local Polish original Blinded by the Lights have proven, there is a huge appetite for Polish drama not only among local audiences, but in the Central European region and beyond,” said Johnathan Young, VP of original programming and production, HBO Central Europe.

Bogumił Lipski, Wataha producer for HBO Poland, added: “The border between Ukraine and Poland, and thus the European Union, continues to inspire us and our Bieszczady Mountains are simply beautiful and fascinating.”

Piotr Szymanek, Katarzyna Tybinka and Marta Szymanek are the series writers. Lipski and Izabela Łopuch serve as producers for HBO Poland, Young is the executive producer for HBO Europe and Andrzej Muszyński produces for ATM Grupa.

The previous two seasons of Wataha were the most watched shows on HBO Poland in their year of release.

Season three of the show marks HBO Europe’s latest Polish production, following most recent original Blinded by the Lights, which premiered in October and became the highest-rated series on HBO Go in Poland in 2018.
