HBO confirms Insecure future

Insecure’s fifth season starts shooting this month

US premium cablenet HBO has confirmed the forthcoming fifth season of its hit Issa Rae-fronted comedy drama Insecure will be its last.

The series follows the awkward experiences and tribulations of a modern-day African-American woman, played by co-creator Rae, and her friends.

The fifth and final season is scheduled to begin production later this month and is set to debut later this year.

The fourth season of Insecure launched last year and received nine Emmy nominations, including one for Outstanding Comedy Series.

The series, which also stars Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis, Natasha Rothwell, Amanda Seales and Alexander Hodge, was created by Rae and Larry Willmore.

Rae also exec produces alongside Prentice Penny, Melina Matsoukas, Michael Rotenberg, Dave Becky, Jonathan Berry, Amy Aniobi and Jim Kleverweis.

Amy Gravitt, executive VP of HBO programming, said: “Issa has turned insecurity into an iconic form of comedy. The show is as incisive as it is heartfelt, and it has resonated strongly with its audience because of the deeply personal work that Issa, Prentice, Melina, the cast and the writers have put into it.

“This talented team has conceived a brilliant final season for Insecure and we look forward to having many more stories to tell with this singular group of collaborators.”
