HBO Asia helps build Viu’s Bridge

Rebecca Lim and Bront Palarae in Viu’s The Bridge

HBO Asia has partnered with Viu, the OTT service from Hong Kong-based telecoms and media group PCCW, on its previously announced local version of Scandinavian drama The Bridge.

Viu announced it was adapting the Endemol Shine format with Malaysian production company Double Vision in April. The 10-episode drama will star Bront Palarae and Rebecca Lim and will be set on the border between Malaysia and Singapore.

The series will be available across Viu’s territories in Asia and the Middle East and will now also air on linear TV across Asia thanks to today’s deal with HBO Asia.

The Bridge was originally created and written by Hans Rosenfeldt and produced by Sweden’s Filmlance International, part of Endemol Shine Group, and Denmark’s Nimbus Film.

In the format, a body is found on the border of two countries, forcing investigators from each to work together to solve the case. The format is distributed internationally by Endemol Shine Group.
