Hayat, Pop TV explore Bitter Lands

Bitter Lands debuted last September on ATV

MIPTV: Two broadcasters in the Balkans have picked up Turkish period drama Bitter Lands from distributor Inter Medya.

Hayat in Bosnia Herzegovina and Pop TV in Slovenia have both bought the series, which is produced by Tims&B Productions. It launched in September last year on ATV in Turkey, scoring an audience share of 31% in its Thursday primetime slot.

Bitter Lands tells a love story that begins in Istanbul during the 1970s and continues in Southern Turkey. It follows a seamstress engaged to a mechanic whose step-brother loses at poker and sells her to mafioso to pay his debt. In an attempt to rescue her, her fiance kills his rival and the pair have to flee.

Bitter Lands has previously sold to Imagen Mexico.
