Hasbro’s eOne takeover cleared in UK

Entertainment One’s Peppa Pig

UK regulator the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has approved US toy giant Hasbro’s US$3.8bn acquisition of Entertainment One (eOne).

The CMA’s investigation, which began on November 21 last year, was the final hurdle for the deal, with the authority examining whether the merger would cause a “substantial lessening of competition” in the UK.

The CMA said it will make the full text of the decision available “shortly.”

Hasbro’s deal for eOne was completed at the beginning of 2020 and added global brands such as Peppa Pig and PJ Masks to the toyco’s arsenal

The combined entity will have offices in London, LA, Toronto, New York, Hong Kong, Melbourne and Shanghai.

eOne’s Canadian TV and film operations will remain a separate Canadian-controlled subsidiary within the combined business. Included in the deal are eOne’s TV production assets such as Whizz Kid Entertainment, Renegade 83 and Daisybeck Studios.
