Nordic Entertainment Group-owned producer and distributor NENT Studios has moved one of its Sweden-based execs across to its Brain Academy outfit as VP, head of operations.

Mark Hammerlid will join the firm, which was set up in 2014 with Beluba TV founder Peter Settman, on January 1.

Hammerlid is currently CFO of NENT Studios’ Swedish business and has held a range of positions within business development and finance.

Brain Academy is a community of writers, producers and development professionals focused on scripted content. With offices in Stockholm and LA, it is now expanding its scripted content development activities in the international market.

Settman, founder and CEO of Brain Academy, said: “Mark will help us to sharpen our business further and to create even more successful projects. He has two particularly valuable strengths – an appreciation for creative excellence and an ability to use this competence to create business success. On top of that, he’s an amazing team player and a great guy to be around, so we’re really looking forward to welcoming him to the team.”

Brain Academy developed and produced two seasons of the comedy-drama series Swedish Dicks, with Peter Stormare in one of the lead roles and Keanu Reeves as a recurring special guest star.

The first ever Viaplay original series when it launched in 2016, Swedish Dicks became Viaplay’s most streamed show as well as the first Nordic series to be distributed by global content leader Lionsgate, which sold both seasons to Pop TV in the US.
