Gunpowder & Sky to adapt Daniel Tate

US prodco Gunpowder & Sky has acquired the rights to adapt Cristin Terrill’s novel Here Lies Daniel Tate into a feature film.

The LA-based firm is partnering with screenwriting duo Nora Kletter and Grainne Belluomo on the project, which will stay faithful to Terrill’s whodunnit thriller plotline but change the protagonist from a boy to a girl, named Danielle.

The film follows the aftermath of the disappearance of the 10-year-old from one of California’s most elite communities. Six years later, when she resurfaces on a snowy street in Vancouver, she’s no longer the same girl.

The idea of changing Daniel to Danielle aimed to give the production a feminist slant, according to Kletter and Belluomo.

The new project follows Gunpowder & Sky’s announcement it was partnering with UK firm Tigerlily Productions to develop a comedy about five women working in the world of corporate banking.
