GSN enters the political game

As the governor race in California hots up, The Game Show Network has unveiled plans to air a debate between some of its more colourful gubernational candidates.

On October 1 at 21.00, the cablenet will air a gameshow-style political debate called Who Wants To Be Governor Of California? The Debating Game.

This spoof political show will highlight the underdog and celebrity candidates of this latest election race. GSN hopes to speak to as many of the 158 candidates currently in the running to replace the current Governor of California, Gray Davis.

Of those appearing on the show, the candidate who secures the most votes in the October 7 election will receive $21,200, the maximum corporate campaign contribution allowed under Californian law.

The network has already confirmed two candidates, ex-Diff'rent Strokes star Gary Coleman and porn star Mary Carey to appear in the panel of five. More contestants will be announced later this week.

The special will be taped in late September and is produced by Mindless Entertainment with Mark Cronin as exec producer.
