Gray Television acquires Swirl Films

US television broadcast group Gray Television has acquired fellow Atlanta-based TV and urban film prodco Swirl Films.

Eric Tomosunas

Founder Eric Tomosunas remains Swirl Film’s CEO and the agreement will see Swirl and Gray’s prodco Tupelo Honey deepen their existing working relationship.

Financial details of the deal, which sees Gray become the new majority owner of Swirl Films, were not disclosed.

Swirl Films specialises in providing production services from script to screen for movies, biopics, scripted series, award shows and documentaries.

Swirl Films owns and operates its own 100,000 sq ft film and TV studio in Atlanta, which is used by both Swirl and other producers.

Over the past six years, Swirl Films has delivered more than 60 original productions via various platforms and distributors, including BET, TV One, Bounce, Lifetime, Hallmark, Reel One, Netflix and Up TV.

Gray currently owns and operates television stations and digital properties in 93 television markets that collectively reach about 24% of US TV households.
