Grandpas turn into Korean detectives

South Korean media group CJ E&M has produced a new drama series based on its travel reality format Grandpas Over Flowers.

Flower Grandpas Investigators is a comedy-drama for CJ E&M’s general entertainment channel tvN and stars 78-year-old actor Lee Soon-jae from the original show.

The latest production revolves around young detectives whose bodies are suddenly transformed into 70-year-olds while their mental maturity remains in their 20s.

Korean popstar Kim Hee-chul plays a younger cop who must learn to work with his older colleagues.

Grandpas Over Flowers has been broadcast across Asia and in the US and is currently being adapted for China by satellite broadcaster Dragon TV.

“The trend towards shows featuring senior actors really took off with Grandpas Over Flowers. Now in Flower Grandpas Investigators, we take this approach a step further by casting senior actors in lead dramatic roles,” said chief producer Kim Jin-young.

The show will air on Fridays at 21.50, replacing Grandpas Over Flowers, which recently ended its second season.
