Gogglebox returns to US under lockdown

The UK version of Gogglebox on Channel 4

Studio Lambert’s Gogglebox format has been revived in the US, with Fox ordering a version in which celebrities and their families watch and react to the week’s standout TV shows.

Gogglebox previously aired in the US on Bravo between 2014 and 2016, under the title The People’s Couch. Fox’s version, Celebrity Watch Party, will premiere on May 7.

The new show will give viewers a glimpse into the homes of celebrities such as Rob Lowe, Meghan Trainor, Joe Buck, Raven-Symoné, JoJo Siwa, Steve Wozniak and Curtis Stone.

Other celebs participating in the reality series, which is based on the hit UK format from Studio Lambert that has been a continuous ratings winner for Channel 4 since it first aired in 2014, are still to be announced.

All3Media Group-owned Undercover Boss producer Studio Lambert will make the show. C21 revealed last year that the format was being re-aimed at the US with an as-yet-unannounced buyer after Jane Turton, CEO of All3Media International, admitted the Bravo version had “flopped” when it aired.

Rob Wade, president of alternative entertainment and specials at Fox Entertainment, said: “Celebrity Watch Party is a fantastically innovative, clever and culturally relevant format that brings families together to celebrate all the best films, entertainment shows and news on television in any given week.”

Studio Lambert CEO Stephen Lambert added: “We’re delighted so many famous people love the idea of this show and want to be part of it. It’s a show that asserts the indispensable role of TV in the fabric of people’s lives and the way it’s at the heart of the nation’s weekly conversation, especially in these unusual times.”

Becca Walker, Jack Burgess, Mike Cotton, Tania Alexander, Tim Harcourt and Lambert serve as executive producers. The format and tape of Celebrity Watch Party is distributed internationally by All3Media International.
