Globo first to pick up BBCWW’s Last Hours

Murder mystery format The Last Hours of Laura K uses fictional surveillance footage

MIPCOM: Brazilian broadcast giant Globo has become the first operator to pick up remake rights to BBC Worldwide (BBCWW)’s immersive online murder mystery format The Last Hours of Laura K.

The UK version, created by the BBC’s development division Writersroom, used 24 hours of footage from a fictional surveillance programme to produce a disconcertingly intimate look at the day leading up to the protagonist’s death.

To find the killer, viewers must immerse themselves in the characters’ digital lives via their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram profiles, looking for clues.

Globo’s adaptation, Prova do Crime, will air on Rede Globo from December as three 10-minute segments on the channels’ Fantástico programme.

“The Last Hours of Laura K underscores our willingness to produce some of the world’s most pioneering and exciting content in ways that fuse the digital and linear realms and immerse the audience in a totally different television experience,” said Anna Gordon, exec VP and MD of BBCWW Latin America/US Hispanic.

The critically acclaimed show has won an array of global awards, including C21’s 2016 International Format Award for the best multi-platform format and the 2015 Lovie Award.
