Glee producer to head Chernin TV

New Girl producer Chernin Entertainment has hired Glee and American Horror Story exec Dante Di Loreto as president of television.

Di Loreto will oversee day-to-day development and production at the company’s television unit, reporting to head of film and television Jenno Topping.

Previous incumbent Katherine Pope left Chernin Entertainment earlier this year to launch a TV unit at Jeff Robinov’s Studio 8.

Di Loreto joins from WatchWorks Entertainment, the production entity he set up earlier this year alongside fellow Glee and American Horror Story executive producer Ryan Murphy.

During his career he has picked up three Emmys, two Golden Globes, a Peabody Award and The Andrew Carnegie Medal.

Di Loreto’s appointment follows Chernin Entertainment signing a two-year overall deal with NBC Entertainment and Universal Television. It previously had a similar set-up with 20th Century Fox that ended after five years.

As well as producing Fox’s New Girl, which has been renewed for a fifth season, Chernin has produced films such as Rise of the Planet of the Apes, its sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Spy, the Paul Feig-directed comedy starring Melissa McCarthy.

Last month the company’s parent, The Chernin Group, appointed former Yahoo executive Mike Kerns to lead its digital unit as the company plots more acquisitions in the tech space.
