Gil, CJ E&M reveal Kids in Power

Gil Formats, the content creation and distribution arm of Israel’s Gil Productions, has unveiled the first project to come from its partnership with South Korean media giant CJ E&M.

Kids in Power will be launched at Cannes market Mipcom in October and is the first show from the pair’s co-development deal.

The format is described as “a daring social experiment” that aims to transform children’s bad behaviour by handing them power over how families operate.

The experiment is observed by the two experts that originated it, a family behaviour expert and a child psychologist, who give their insights on the different situations created by the experiment.

The Korean version of the format aired on CJ E&M’s flagship channel tvN during weekday prime earlier this year, becoming a hit among women aged 30 to 50.

CJ holds distribution rights in Asia and the Middle East (excluding Israel), while Gil Formats retains rights in the rest of the world.

Korean formats remain in demand, with a slew of deals coming over the past few months. Last month CJ E&M unveiled the fruits of the format co-development partnership it inked with ITV Studios at MipTV earlier this year, while distributor Eccho Rights revealed it had struck a deal with South Korean production company Pan Entertainment for scripted formats.
