Gazzolo gets Viacom international gig

Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) has appointed Pierluigi Gazzolo as president of OTT International and Viacom International Studios (VIS).

Pierluigi Gazzolo

Gazzolo, who has worked at Viacom since 2009, is currently president of VIMN Americas and executive VP of Nickelodeon International. Under his leadership, VIS was launched following the 2016 acquisitions of Telefe and Porta dos Fundos.

In his new role, he will initially focus on accelerating the rollout of streaming service Pluto TV across international markets, starting with its Latin America launch in early 2020.

Gazzolo will also be responsible for creating an integrated VIS operation, managing original content creation assets across ViacomCBS internationally, ahead of the forthcoming merger of Viacom and CBS in December.

Gazzolo’s current role of president of VIMN Americas will be filled by JC Acosta, who is currently exec VP and COO of the division.

Acosta, who joined Viacom in 2007, will take up his new role on January 3, under which he will be responsible for VIMN’s operations in Latin America, Canada and the US Hispanic market.

Gazzolo will report to David Lynn, who was made president and CEO of VIMN last month and will oversee the combined company’s international media networks including Network 10 in Australia. Lynn previously served as president and CEO of VIMN.

Lynn said: “Pier’s vision and leadership in acquiring and integrating both Telefe and Porta dos Fundos for the Americas business was a step-change for Viacom in the region and enabled the creation of a studio business, not just for the Americas, but for all of Viacom International.

“Additionally, Pier’s leadership in the streaming and OTT space has driven subscriber growth and established VIMN as a key player in OTT in the region.

“JC played a key role in the transformation of the VIMN Americas business, integrating and managing Telefe and Porta dos Fundos, and is ideally equipped to take VIMN Americas through its next stage of growth.”

In related news, VIMN has launched a “personalised” linear music channel called MyMTV Music in Switzerland. MyMTV Music allows users to curate their own video channel by tapping into MTV’s library of music videos.

The channel will launch in France, Spain and Denmark at later dates.
