Gaumount adds France TV, MarVista duo

Narcos producer Gaumont has hired execs from France Télévisions (FTV) and MarVista Entertainment as it continues to shuffle its ranks in Paris and LA.

Cecilia Rossignol

In the French capital, the company behind the Netflix Pablo Escobar series has appointed Cecilia Rossignol as VP of international TV drama sales.

Rossignol joins from FTV’s distribution arm, where she was in charge of TV sales to North America and several European territories, arriving a week after her colleague Laura Lass, who now heads up Gaumont’s animation sales.

Rossignol was head of sales and acquisitions at 100% Distribution from 2014 to 2016 and before that worked at Newen Distribution.

The exec will be responsible for selling Gaumont’s US and French programming within EMEA territories and maintaining European coproduction partnerships.

In LA, meanwhile, having hired MarVista executive VP of distribution Vanessa Shapiro as president of worldwide distribution in January, Gaumont has now added Robby Amar from the same company.

Robby Amar

Amar joins Gaumont as VP of TV acquisitions and distribution, with a remit to pick up new series from third-party producers for worldwide distribution. Amar was executive director of international sales for MarVista, and previously held the role of director of international sales at Rive Gauche Television.

The latest hires also include Cherie Johnson joining as VP of marketing for international TV sales and come after a shake-up that saw the departures of VP of distribution Hana Zidek, president of international distribution Erik Pack and executive VP of business strategy and operations Sam Sermon.

The three new execs will report to Shapiro, who said: “2017 will be a year of significant growth for Gaumont, with over 40 drama series across multiple genres in development between our LA and Paris offices and our new focus on acquisitions from third-party producers.

“The appointment of these highly respected and accomplished executives will be of paramount importance as we move into the production of new content over the next few months both in the US and with our European coproduction partners.”
