Gaumont to re-imagine Lennon books

Julian Lennon’s Touch the Earth

Narcos producer Gaumont has agreed a deal with Julian Lennon to turn the musician and environmentalist’s children’s books into an animated TV series.

Touch the Earth will be an adventure preschool series with themes of environmentalism and social issues running throughout in a fun, organic, and compelling way, Gaumont said.

Lennon, son of the late Beatle John, and his children’s book collaborator Bart Davis will executive produce the series, which will also draw on Touch the Earth’s sequel, Heal the Earth, due for publication this month. The books are illustrated by Smiljana Coh.

Lennon and Davis will work with Gaumont president of animation Nicolas Atlan and senior VP of creative development for animation and family Terry Kalagian, while Kimberly Dennison will be the executive in charge of development.

“It is an exciting time as we engage in the process of connecting the right creatives to the project who will share the passion for the show’s messages and themes,” said Lennon.

Atlan added: “Touch the Earth will surely inspire children everywhere to make a difference and show them how they can be the ones to change the world, one story at a time.”

Lennon and Davis are represented by Trident Media Group chairman Robert Gottlieb and VPs Alyssa Henkin and Erica Silverman.

Lennon founded the global environmental and humanitarian organisation The White Feather Foundation in 2007 and has released numerous albums as a musician.

Davis is the author of 17 books, including 10 novels and five non-fiction titles, plus two children’s books with Lennon.

Gaumont’s animated catalogue consists of more than 800 half-hours of programming and includes titles such as Noddy, Trulli Tales, Belle & Sebastian, Furiki Wheels and F is For Family.
