Gaumont grows kids’ arm with Soto

French prodco Gaumont has appointed a former Spin Master Entertainment executive to a newly created role at its animation and family division.

Alex Soto has joined Gaumont as creative director for animation and family, where he will be responsible for the creative vision of the company’s series.

Soto will report to Terry Kalagian, who was recently promoted to senior VP for the division. She will work alongside the recently appointed Kimberly Dennison, VP of creative development in the US office, and Gaelle Guiny, VP of creative development in Paris.

Current animation and family projects on Gaumont’s slate include an adaptation of Stan Sakai’s comic book series Usagi Yojimbo and a series based on Julian Lennon and Bart Davis’ books Touch the Earth and Heal The Earth.

As executive of creative development at Spin Master Entertainment, Soto oversaw Super Dinosaur for Skybound Entertainment and collaborated on the rebrand of anime adventure series Bakugan.

Prior to joining Spin Master, he served for two years in a directing role at Sony Pictures Animation and also worked at Film Roman, where he was the supervising director on Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man for Disney XD for four seasons.

Soto also served as the supervising producer for the first four seasons of the original Ben 10 for Cartoon Network Studios and directed four seasons of Teen Titans for Warner Bros Animation.
