Game of Thrones duo prep new HBO show

HBO has ordered a series from the creators/showrunners of Game of Thrones that will be set in an alternative reality in which slavery was never abolished.

Confederate comes from David Benioff and DB Weiss, who will write the series and will also serve as showrunners.

The show will chronicle the events leading to the Third American Civil War and is set in an alternate timeline, where the southern states have successfully seceded from the Union, giving rise to a nation where slavery remains legal and has evolved into a modern institution.

It will begin production following Game of Thrones’ eighth and final season on HBO next year.

Nichelle Tramble Spellman, Malcolm Spellman, Carolyn Strauss and Bernadette Caulfield are on board as executive producers.

“We have discussed Confederate for years, originally as a concept for a feature film. But our experience on Thrones has convinced us that no one provides a bigger, better storytelling canvas than HBO,” said Benioff and Weiss in a joint statement.
