FYI tucks into food series

A+E Networks’ US lifestyle cablenet FYI has greenlit a series that explores the modern obsession with sharing images of food online.

Food Porn (14×30′) will be hosted by Michael Chernow, restaurateur and co-owner of The Meatball Shop in New York, and will focus on the kinds of food people love to take pictures of.

Viewers will follow Chernow as he travels across the US to discover what makes certain meals worthy to share online and to meet the chefs and restaurants responsible for the dishes.

There are currently more than 50 million posts on Instagram with the hashtag #foodporn, and the phrase is tagged nearly every two seconds on Twitter, according to FYI.

“People are obsessed with photographing, sharing and discussing the food they eat on social media,” said Jana Bennett, president of the channel. “FYI will be capturing this convergence of mouth-watering food and social trends in a unique and entertaining format.”

Bethenny Frankel, TV personality, author and entrepreneur, will serve as an executive producer on the show, with production beginning immediately with Leftfield Entertainment-owned Loud TV (Tiny House Hunting).
