FX agrees first-look with Atlanta’s Murai

FX Productions, the production unit of the US cablenet, has signed a first-look deal with Atlanta executive producer and director Hiro Murai.

Murai will develop projects for FX Networks and other FX platforms. Murai is an exec producer and director of Donald Glover’s (aka Childish Gambino) FX comedy Atlanta.

He has directed seven episodes of the current second run, Atlanta: Robbin’ Season, and won a Producers Guild of America Award for episodic television production in the comedy category for S1.

Murai has also helmed the pilot to Amazon Studios project Sea Oak and directed episodes of Snowfall and Legion for FX and Barry for HBO.

“Hiro has excelled as a director and a creative force in commercials, music videos and episodic television, and we welcome the chance to see him develop his own series through FX Productions,” said Nick Grad, co-president of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions.

Late last year, Masters of Sex creator Michelle Ashford agreed a similar production deal with FX Productions, reflecting the network’s desire to capitalise on the in-demand writers on the TV circuit.
