Fulwell 73, the UK prodco behind The Late Late Show With James Corden and Netflix’s Sunderland ‘Til I Die, is working on a docuseries about the women’s team at London football club Chelsea.

Flying High will document Chelsea FC Women’s 2019-20 season, with Fulwell partner Leo Pearlman attached as exec producer.

Pearlman described the eight-parter as a “fly-on-the-wall observational documentary,” with its unveiling coming ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France this summer and with interest in women’s football growing rapidly. Broadcaster/streamer details have not been revealed.

“Women’s football is, rightly, gathering huge interest and support around the world. Chelsea FC Women is at the forefront of that surge in popularity, and we hope this series captures that zeitgeist,” said Pearlman.

Emma Hayes, manager of Chelsea FC Women, said the show “will further highlight the strides being made in the game and showcase the professional standards demanded for elite-level women’s football.”

She added: “I know how hard my players and staff work, the sacrifices they make, and the desire they have to achieve their dreams, and by allowing cameras to capture our every move, others will get to appreciate it too.”

It’s the latest sports-focused series for Fulwell73, whose Sunderland ‘Til I Die docuseries, which followed Sunderland FC’s disastrous 2017/18 season, was a hit for Netflix.

The prodco, which is also behind Carpool Karaoke, has also worked on football doc The Class of ’92, Mo Farah: No Easy Mile and Usain Bolt-focused I Am Bolt.

Earlier this week, the company’s hit BBC documentary Bros: After the Screaming Stops was picked up in North America by Gravitas Ventures.
