French, UK drama execs swap cities

Television drama producers from Paris and London are set to take part in a week-long exchange project to strengthen ties between the two cities’ television industries.

The event, organised by Film London and Ile de France Film Commission, will see producers from London set off for Paris on November 16 for two days, where they will meet local producers and tour the city’s production facilities.

Returning to London on November 18 with their Parisian colleagues, the delegation will participate in C21’s three-day Content London event at Bafta, which will be attended by broadcasters, commissioning editors and financiers.

The French producers will also participate in a UK tax relief seminar and a London locations tour before returning to Paris at the end of the week.

Both the UK and French governments offer financial incentives to producers to attract filming in their capitals, with the former offering a tax relief for high-end television drama and the latter a rebate for international production.

Some of the producers set to attend the exchange, dubbed A Tale of Two Cities, are developing projects suitable for an Anglo-French coproduction.

From London, these include Lachlan MacKinnon of Intrepido, Kate Sinclair of Feet Films/Company Pictures, Stewart Mackinnon of Headline Pictures and David Tanner of Rainmark Films.

From Paris, Christine de Bourbon Busset of Lincoln TV, Marie Dours of Marilou Films, Lauranne Bourrachot of Chic Films and Clémentine Dabadie of Chabraque Films are all set to attend.

Olivier-René Veillon, CEO of Ile de France Film Commission, said: “The French public love British series, and after the success of The Returned on Channel 4, the British public is ready for new discoveries.”

Adrian Wootton, chief executive of Film London and The British Film Commission, said: “The initiative represents a snapshot of Film London’s work to boost business, proactively create positive opportunities for our screen industries and sell the capital as a first-class city in which to do business.”
