French network picks up Bisexual

The Bisexual

French pay TV company Canal+ Group has pre-bought a new contemporary comedy from distributor All3Media International for all its territories.

The Bisexual, which is currently in post-production, is produced by Sister Pictures subsidiary Hootenanny for Channel 4 in the UK and Hulu in the US.

The six-part series is written, directed by and stars Iranian-American filmmaker Desiree Akhavan. Sky Network in New Zealand has also acquired TV rights to the series while digital rights have gone to Australian streamer Stan.

The series explores the differences between dating men and women from the perspective of a person who finds herself – for the first time – doing both.

Bafta-nominated Maxine Peake (Peterloo, Three Girls) and Brian Gleeson (Hellboy, Phantom Thread) star alongside Akhavan in her first television project.

The Bisexual also stars Eva Birthistle (The Last Kingdom), John Dagliesh (Justice League, Sunny Afternoon), Naomi Ackie (Lady Macbeth, Yardie), Niamh Algar (The Virtues) and newcomers Saskia Chana and Michelle Guillot.
