French deal for new 24

A French broadcaster has acquired Fox’s upcoming reboot of the Kiefer Sutherland action series 24, which is set to be filmed in London next month.

Pay TV outfit Canal+ will air the 12-part miniseries, 24: Live Another Day, after striking a deal with distributor Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution. The series will begin airing on Fox in the US with a double bill on May 5 and Canal+ said the show will air in France later this year.

Produced by Teakwood Lane Productions in association Twentieth Century Fox TV and Imagine Television, the new episodes will see counter-terrorism expert Jack Bauer return to TV screens after a four-year absence.

Howard Gordon will again executive produce while Jon Cassar, who produced and directed 24 from seasons two to seven, will also return to executive produce and direct episodes.

Canal+ has been the home of 24 in France since it began airing the series, which ran for eight seasons, back in 2002. The series was picked up by British satcaster BSkyB for broadcast in the UK earlier this week.
