FremantleMedia debuts gameshow net

NATPE: FremantleMedia and distributor Debmar-Mercury are getting into the channels business with a gameshow network launching on local Fox Television Stations across the US.

Buzzr TV will comprise classic gameshow titles from the Fremantle library including Family Feud, The Price Is Right, Beat the Clock and Blockbusters.

The channel will launch as part of Fox TV’s portfolio of local digital networks spanning all 17 US markets in which it operates. Debmar-Mercury is here at Natpe in Miami conducting meetings with other station groups to expand Buzzr’s footprint.

FremantleMedia North America CEO Thom Beers has made the channel launch a top priority for the business.

“When I joined the company two years ago, it became instantly clear that there was a huge opportunity for us to not only be a producer in the space, but also a programmer,” he said.

Fremantle has more than 40,000 gameshow episodes in its library and the deal with Fox TV was brokered by Debmar-Mercury, which also represents other, newer titles from the firm, such as Celebrity Name Game.

Co-presidents Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus said Buzzr would be “the only gameshow network operating in the digital multicast universe.”

“We believe the depth of the FremantleMedia library will allow the network to secure its future, offering viewers a proven, quality and unique alternative to other digital channels,” they said.

Fox TV Stations senior VP of programming Frank Cicha added that the channel would be a great addition to its digital portfolio in a highly competitive marketplace.
