Fremantle series land in Lat Am

ITV drama Butterfly focuses on a transgender 11-year-old

MIPCOM: AMC, National Geographic and DirecTV are among the broadcasters to have picked up Fremantle programming to air in Latin America.

National Geographic has taken documentary series Manson: The Lost Tapes, which is being produced by Naked Entertainment for ITV, and paranormal-themed In Search Of, a Zachary Quinto-fronted reboot of the 1970s series.

AMC has acquired a drama package that includes Man in an Orange Shirt, written by novelist Patrick Gale; A Family Tale, which comes from The Young Pope producer Wildside and looks at the challenges of modern family life; and fact-based series Against the Law.

DirecTV has taken Picnic at Hanging Rock, a reimagining of the Joan Lindsay novel, and Butterfly, a transgender-themed series that recently began on UK broadcaster ITV. The pay TV operator has also acquired factual series Pope: The Most Powerful Man in History.

Dominican Republic network Telesistema has picked up Syco Entertainment format Got Talent, commissioning local prodco East Coast to produce.

Elsewhere, Euston Films’ pre-apocalyptic drama Hard Sun, Wildside and Rai Fiction’s Mafia Only Kills in Summer and Kudos-produced Capital have been acquired by SVoD platform Multivision. A+E Networks channel Lifetime has bought Olivia Newton-John: Hopelessly Devoted to You and Sony has renewed its deal for the forthcoming season of American Idol.

Brazil’s Globosat has acquired five cookery programmes: Jamie Cooks Italy, Jamie’s Italian Christmas, two seasons of Jimmy & Jamie’s Food Fight Club, Jamie’s Quick & Easy Food season two and Nigella at My Table: Christmas Special.
