Fremantle, Fabula strike first-look deal

Production and distribution giant Fremantle has signed an exclusive first-look partnership with Oscar-winning prodco Fabula.

The deal will see Fremantle collaborate with LA-based Fabula to develop a slate of original English- and Spanish-language dramas that Fremantle will distribute.

Fabula, founded in 2004 by Pablo Larraín and Juan de Dios Larraín, won last year’s Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, alongside Sebastián Lelio, for A Fantastic Woman.

Fremantle and Fabula are currently working together on La Jauría, an eight-part Spanish-language psychological thriller directed by Lucia Puenzo.

The series stars Daniela Vega (A Fantastic Woman), Antonia Zegers (A Fantastic Woman, The Club, Prófugos, Tony Manero) and María Gracia Omegna (Young & Wild, Princesita, La Vida de los Peces).

The group will play a specialist gender-related crime police force who investigate the disappearance of student and leader of a feminist movement. Production on the series began in January.

Fabula’s previous projects include the features Jackie, Neruda, No and The Club and it recently remade Lelio’s acclaimed 2013 film Gloria as Gloria Bell, starring Julianne Moore, John Turturro and Michael Cera.

The Fabula team will work with Fremantle’s Christian Vesper, exec VP and creative director of global drama, and Dante Di Loreto, president of scripted for North America, to develop the English- and Spanish-language projects.
