Frederator gets claws into Catlantis

Catlantis is based on a book by Anna Starobinets

Adventure Time producer Frederator Studios has acquired rights to develop and pitch an animated series based on Russian children’s book Catlantis.

Written by Russian novelist and children’s book author Anna Starobinets and published in 2015, the book follows a house cat who must travel back through time in order to marry the love of his life and restore peace to the ancient fabled city of Catlantis.

The series will be story edited by Brydie Lee-Kennedy (The Amazing World of Gumball, Bravest Warriors) and joins other series such as Netflix’s Castlevania and Amazon’s Costume Quest on Frederator’s slate.

Frederator was in founded in 1998 by media entrepreneur and former Hanna-Barbera president Fred Seibert. It became part of Canada’s Wow! Unlimited Media last year as part of a merger with animation studio Rainmaker Entertainment and management firm Ezrin Hirsh Entertainment.

As well as Pendleton Ward’s Adventure Time on Cartoon Network, Frederator has been behind Butch Hartman’s The Fairly OddParents on Nickelodeon and online toons Bravest Warriors and Bee & PuppyCat.

Starobinets is also known as a writer of dystopian, metaphysical and horror novels and short stories, and has been called “the Russian Queen of Horror.”
