Franses resurfaces at C4 indie fund

The UK’s Channel 4 has hired former Nutopia MD Laura Franses to head up its new indie sector investment fund.

C4 stepped up its plans to invest in the UK’s private production sector by announcing a £20m (US$33m) growth fund to plough into indies in January.

Now the broadcaster has brought in Laura Franses as head of fund to lead the initiative which aims to provide access to funding for start-ups and medium sized production companies in the UK to help them grow and develop their business.

Franses followed stints with Zodiak Media, Raw TV and Film4 with four years as managing director at Jane Root’s factual-skewing production company Nutopia before resigning in 2012.

She subsequently joined online platform Vice as MD of Vice UK to spearhead the company’s video content push in Britain but left after less than three months in October last year.

Franses will report to Glyn Isherwood, group finance director, and work alongside the broadcaster’s Growth Fun Advisory Board. Further appointments to the advisory board will be announced in due course.

It’s a second coming for Franses at C4 – she started her career as a production finance executive at the broadcaster’s Film Four arm between 2000 and 2004.
