France’s C8 starts Family Feud

Canal+ channel C8 in France has picked up FremantleMedia’s classic gameshow format Family Feud, which will air in an access primetime slot on Fridays from next month.

The show, which previously ran in France for 10 years as Une Famille en Or on TF1, will arrive on C8 as Family Battle on September 22.

It will air as part of daily talkshow Touche Pas a Mon Poste (TPMP), whose presenter, Cyril Hanouna, will host.

Originally a feel-good format that commented on other TV shows, TPMP found itself at the centre of controversy last season when it was accused of playing homophobic and humiliating pranks. The channel was fined €3m (US$3.6m) by regulatory body CSA after it received 47,000 complaints about the show.

C8 is appealing against the decision, but has announced TPMP will revert back to its original, less risqué format in the autumn and will now also include gameshow segments.

The channel is looking to develop its schedule in order to grow its reach. It moved into gameshows last year, enjoying success with original format Guess My Age. It also launched original primetime adventure gameshow format Cash Island a week ago.
