France TV investigates Vikings, Volcanoes

Vikings: The Ghost Ship centres on the excavation of a 1,200-year-old ship

Pubcaster France Télévisions has ordered three scientific investigation documentaries for its Science Grand Format slot, each of which is being distributed by ZED.

Directed by Pierre Stine and produced by ZED, Vikings: The Ghost Ship (Viking: Le Bateau Fantôme in French) combines scientific investigation and epic historical drama as it follows the excavation of a 1,200-year-old Viking funeral ship found in Norway in 2018.

The 1×52’ and 1×90’ 4K doc is slated for completion by the end of 2021.

Directed by Pascal Guérin and produced by Les Batelières Production, Iznik: The Sunken Basilica (Les Secrets Engloutis de la Basilique) retraces the unprecedented underwater excavation supposed to unravel the mysteries surrounding a 1,600-year-old church found in 2014 in Turkey’s Lake Iznik.

The 1×52’ and 1×90’ 4K doc will be delivered in September 2022.

Finally, Naples: Under the Volcanic Threat (Baie de Naples: La Colere des Volcans) follows a team of scientists probing dangerous volcanoes in the Italian region of Napoli.

The 1×52’ and 1×90’ 4K doc is produced by Artline Films and MyMax for France Télévisions and Italian broadcaster Rai. Directed by Laurence Thiriat, it will be delivered in February 2021.

All three titles are available for pre-sale.
