MIPCOM: Shine France has licensed Gil Formats’ factual entertainment show Life on Duty, in the second deal for the format since its launch.

The producer-distributor, part of the Endemol Shine Group, bought the French rights to the Israeli export during the format’s first Mipcom showing this week.

It follows an agreement with Warner Bros International Television Production that will see the format optioned in Australia, Denmark and the Netherlands.

Life on Duty (12×60’) follows workers from three emergency services – police, fire, and hospital trauma – and contrasts the brutal and at times heroic days and nights spent on the job with their often-neglected private lives.

The primetime format will document dramatic emergencies, adding unique insight into the personal price emergency service workers pay in commitment to their profession.

Priscilla Siney, head of sales and acquisitions at Shine France, said of the option agreement: “The format offers the unique personal context of those people at the forefront of a nation’s emergency services and we expect strong interest in developing the programme for French audiences.”

Gil Formats, the new content creation and distribution arm of Israel’s Gil Productions, is making its debut at Mipcom in Cannes this week with the returnable observational format, which was commissioned by Israel’s Channel 10 to air in winter 2016.
