France 2 backs All Against 1

Nordisk Film TV Denmark’s interactive gameshow All Against 1

France 2 has commissioned a local version of All Against 1, the Banijay Group format that was at the centre of a legal dispute over format theft claims.

The interactive studio-based entertainment show pits one contestant against the entire nation and will be produced in France by Banijay’s Air Productions.

A 10×90’ series of All Against 1 is also about to launch in primetime on NRK in Norway on January 13, 2018, produced by Banijay-backed Nordisk Film TV Norway.

The show, created by Nordisk Film TV Denmark, recently aired in Denmark on DR1 and has also been made in Finland by Nelonen.

The format was the subject of a legal dispute last year. C21 broke news of the row at Mipcom in 2016 after FremantleMedia’s Tel Aviv-based prodco Abot Hameiri Productions (AHP) claimed All Against 1 was a copy of its own show Are You Smarter Than The Crowd?, now known as The Best of All.

AHP, which makes The X Factor and Survivor in Israel, said it had pitched Are You Smarter Than The Crowd? to the France-based international production group in 2014.

The case then appeared to be heading to court after FremantleMedia said in November it was claiming copyright infringement against Banijay, with the latter subsequently confirming it would counter sue.

Both sides backed down, however, agreeing the two formats are original and can exist as separate entities.
