Foxtel, True Royalty acquire DRG docs

Foxtel in Australia and SVoD platform True Royalty TV are among companies around the world to have picked up royalty-focused shows from UK distributor DRG.

The pay TV firm and the royalty-themed streamer, which is available in the UK, Ireland, Canada and New Zealand, have acquired the same three programmes.

They are The Big Royal Weddings Extravaganza, which explores the traditions, pageantry and secrets of royal weddings; Meghan Markle: How to be Royal, focusing on the US actor who recently married into the UK royal family; and Prince Harry: From Hellraiser to Husband, which documents the prince’s life from the pranks and parties that marked his early years through to military service and charity commitments.

The hour-long programmes were produced by UK-based ITN Productions for TLC in the US. Each features footage from ITN’s royal archives, as well as insider contributions and insight from royal experts.

True Royalty TV has also taken four other royal titles from DRG: By Royal Appointment (6×30’), Kate and William: The Wedding of the Century (1×60′), Prince George at One (1×60’) and The Secret Photos of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor (1×60′).

Elsewhere, Prince Harry: From Hellraiser to Husband has been picked up by E! in Latin America, while fellow Lat Am broadcaster DirecTV and Japan’s Nippon TV have acquired Meghan Markle: How to be Royal.

TV3 in Ireland and Discovery in Benelux have both taken the Markle show and The Big Royal Weddings Extravaganza, which has also been picked up by TV2 in Norway and Fokus in Poland.
