Foxtel, Discovery pick Proper content

Vegas Rat Rods has gone to Africa and Australia

Broadcasters in North America, EMEA and Asia Pacific have acquired more than 250 hours of programming from Toronto-based factual distributor Proper Rights.

Foxtel in Australia has pre-bought Last Stop Garage (12×30′), described as a comedic, character-led docuseries, while Discovery Networks Europe has taken the show for its channels in Spain, Italy, France, the UK and Latin America.

Produced by Proper Television for Discovery Canada and Discovery’s Velocity US, the series follows the team at a remote garage in North West River, a small town in Labrador, Canada.

Elsewhere, Africa One has acquired season three of Vegas Rat Rods (12×60′) for its Ignition channel, while Seven Network in Australia has taken the second run (10×60′).

The first season of Tougher Than it Looks (12×30′) has been picked up by A+E for Iberia and Australia, while Viasat has taken the series for Scandinavia, CEE, Russia and Africa.

Meanwhile, Essential Media’s Body Hack (6×60′) has been acquired by Red Bull’s Servus TV in Austria and German-speaking territories, National Geographic in India and CBC’s Documentary Channel in Canada.

Natalie Vinet, VP of Proper Rights, said there had been a “noticeable uptick in the appetite for quality factual, lifestyle and documentary programming” at the MipTV market this year.
