Fox targets more Korean format success

US network Fox has ordered another music-themed South Korean format, following the success of The Masked Singer last year.

I Can See Your Voice, from South Korea’s CJ ENM, first aired in the country in 2015. Each week, one contestant has the chance to win a cash prize if they can tell the different between the good and bad singers, without ever hearing them sing a note.

Helping the contestant navigate through rounds of lip sync challenges, hidden clues and true or false evidence is a panel of celebrity comedians and experts.

I Can See Your Voice follows the success of The Masked Singer on Fox last year, which is based on in Korean outfit MBC Entertainment’s The King of Mask Singer. The US version is now in its third season on Fox.

Fox Alternative Entertainment will produce I Can See Your Voice, which will premiere this year. Comedian and actor Ken Jeong, who is a panelist on The Masked Singer in both the US and UK, will host and exec produce the series.

“Just like The Masked Singer, I Can See Your Voice is a distinctive format that makes for a big, bold creative swing. And with Ken leading the charge as host, it’s going to be another crazy ride for viewers,” said Rob Wade, president of alternative entertainment and specials at Fox Entertainment.

Fox Alternative Entertainment was formed midway through last year and immediately brought production of the US version of The Masked Singer in-house. Earlier this week, former Jupiter Entertainment exec Allison Wallach was hired to run it.
