Fox takes Red Band Society off air

US network Fox is pulling its remake of Spanish drama The Red Band Society (aka Polseres Vermelles), produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin TV and ABC Studios.

The format follows a group of children living on a hospital cancer ward and was created by Alberto Spinoza and produced for TV3 in Spain by local prodco Filmax, which co-owns the format with the broadcaster.

The US version, written by Margaret Nagle, has reached its 10th episode but Fox is now set to shelve the remaining three, which it will air at a date yet to be confirmed. The network has not axed the show entirely, however, and it could yet return for a second season, according to reports.

Fox recently dropped Talpa Media’s reality format Utopia a month after slashing its weekly episode count.
