Fox eyes 24 prequel

US network Fox’s next incarnation of action-drama franchise 24 could be a prequel to the original show, according to US reports.

Fox, producer 20th Century Fox, Imagine TV and former 24 showrunner Howard Gordon have been exploring potential spin-offs from the franchise, which has spawned various series including last year’s 24: Legacy.

Dana Walden, Fox TV Group’s chairman and CEO, admitted Gordon and 24 co-creators Joel Surnow and Bob Cochran were working on a new version in May, and reports in US trade titles suggest the show will act as a prequel to the original.

The spin-off is in development and is said to explore the origins of Jack Bauer, the lead character from the original show, which aired for eight seasons from 2001.
