Fox’s Coupled only made it to one season

Fox has cancelled one Mark Burnett-produced series but added another in the form of a gameshow based on the music recognition app Shazam.

The US network will not be making a second season of Burnett’s dating series Coupled, the first season of which came to an end on Fox on last week.

The format was among 19 brought by distributor MGM International Television Distribution to MipFormats and MipTV earlier this year.

Fox has quickly got back into business with Burnett however by ordering Beat Shazam from the The Voice and Survivor executive producer.

The interactive musical gameshow challenges contestants to see if they can recognise popular tracks and is based on a feature in the app, which claims to have 120 million active users.

Shazam Entertainment is producing the series alongside Burnett and Don’t Forget the Lyrics creator Jeff Apploff. A launch date for the series has not yet been set.
